I started practicing yoga because I was drawn to the beauty of the poses.  I quickly learned that yoga has tremendous health benefits, from strength and muscular endurance to clarity of the mind and mental equanimity.  I love the way the practice makes me feel and am constantly surprised at the variety of physical and energetic challenges yoga provides.  I knew I was ready to become a teacher when my combined confidence and physical ability gave way to a desire to dig deeper, go farther, share more.  As I grow and continue to learn about the philosophy and methods of yoga, my hope is to share this experience with others.

Yoga can change your life in so many positive, transformative ways. After all, who doesn’t want more joy, confidence, and inner strength in their life?! This is why I practice yoga and why I make it part of my life each and every day.  Namaste 

Patti Doyle Thames Street Yoga

Patti became a certified yoga instructor in 2002. She continues to enjoy the privilege of growing and furthering her practice with other local and national teachers. Patti's classes are challenging but their spontaneous nature allows exploration of various modifications to allow the practice to resonate on a deeply personal level. 

Her hope is to provide students with the opportunity to come up against their own growing edges, physically and energetically, as a means to mirror those experiences in life off the mat. Emphasis is placed on intention to guide the practitioner through a uniquely personal yoga experience.

Patti is also a Kira Grace Warrior and was named "Best Yoga Teacher" in the 2014 Newport Mercury Love Awards.

Shannon Walker MahatmaYoga Studio

As a yoga teacher, Shannon guides her students to expose, soften, peel back, & listen to themselves through stillness, body awareness, intelligent sequence & flow.

Her fascination with the modalities of the human body and a passionate belief that yoga is the best medicine evokes a creativity in my teaching. Drawing from a strong Vinyasa practice, she elementally balances classes with yin yoga, pranayama & meditative flow. 

Shannon has been a yoga practitioner since 2005 and began teaching in 2011. She completed her 200 hour Vinyasa Teacher Training with Patti Doyle and Liz Lindh.  Under the guidance of my beloved teachers, Therasa Murphy (Yinyasa), Raghunath Cappo (Vinyasa) and the inspiration of Patricia Walden, Shannon is able to continually develop her personal style. She is committed to the evolution of her teaching and regularly attend workshops and mini-teacher trainings.

Recently someone asked me the question, "Why do you teach yoga?". The response fell effortlessly from my mouth, "I teach yoga because I practice yoga.". And I do, I practice and I also engage thoroughly in life. I always have engaged with the hails and fails of being a modern day rock-n-roll woman. My practice of yoga is to establish a textural relationship with self discovery. One that will bring me into a conversation with the world. My teachings are always to invite us to a place where we rejoice in what is, and what has always been.

I've studied enough Kripalu Yoga to know about tenderness and compassion - 200hr certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor - and studied enough to know that I need something more. Which has brought me to my current training with Noah Mazé - 500hr YogaMazé Instructor.

Tessa Hollyn Taub  PULSE NEWPORT

Tessa is celebrating 10 years as a Professional in the health and fitness industry. After playing Division I Collegiate Tennis for four years, Tessa continued to pursue her boundless passion for fitness. Within a year and a half in the industry, Tessa rose to the level of a Master Trainer. However, with bad knees from years of over training and a broken relationship with food and exercise, she realized she was struggling to take care of herself. In 2008, Tessa attended the world's leading nutrition school, The Institute of Integrative Nutrition in order to conquer her relationship with food and her body that started from a young age. Tessa has fine-tuned her craft in such a way that she delivers results for clients in all areas of life. She has worked with many diverse clients from top doctors and lawyers, hard-core Boston marathoners, to powerful corporate executives and entrepreneurs. By coaching proper alignment and biomechanics, people can be pain free and lead wonderfully active lifestyles. For Tessa, movement without pain is crucial. She believes that your workouts, when done with proper breathe work, movement and lots of love, translate to your success in everyday life. After years of teaching various formats, she developed a Breathe.Move.Love concept which transcends into all of her classes including BarreFusion, Heated Slow Flow Yoga, and Real Ride Spin. Her infectious enthusiasm mixed with motivational music enables you to break through barriers and meet personal goals you never thought possible!  Community service and being apart of a TEAM are her driving forces. In 2014 she helped organize and co-taught a $75,000 charity ride for Ovarian Cancer in Newport, and she consistently mentors through many different facets. Her biggest dream is finally coming to light as she teams up with business partner, Julia Girman, to launch their signature program - 8 Weeks of Awesome. Tessa holds a certification from NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), Corrective Exercise Specialist, Neuromuscular Stretch cert, Senior Fit, YogaFit, TRX, Mad DoggAthletics (Spinning), BarreSculpt. In addition, Tessa received her nutrition training from The Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN) earning accreditation from The American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP) and Purchase College, SUNY.

Rebecca Polan  NANAQUAKET YOGA STUDIO

Rebecca is a former ballet dancer and began a regular yoga practice over 12 years ago to stretch and strengthen, subsequently discovering the many other benefits yoga offers.  In April of 2015, she completed the 200hr Vinyasa Teacher Training at Thames Street Yoga in Newport, RI with Patti Doyle.  Rebecca appreciates the quality of relaxed effort she has learned through yoga that she has been able to take into dance and all aspects of life on and off the mat.  As a yogi and now a teacher, her approach is a balance of focus of alignment and mindfulness, and her classes offer a playful, creative and yet challenging flow.

Erin Coonan  Thames Street Yoga

Erin (RYT200) completed her teacher training in 2012 at Innerlight Center for Yoga and Meditation with two amazing yogis, mentors and gurus, Patti Doyle and Liz Lindh.   She came to yoga in 2010 when treatment from a cancer diagnosis left her exhausted, emotionally and physically.  She attributes her healing, inside and out, to her practice and, through teaching, hopes to help others find that same internal peace.

 Erin focuses on pranayama as a vehicle to quieting the mind, drawing focus inward and slowing down.  Erin ties yogic philosophy and readings into her teachings, as a means to broaden students’ perspective and to assist in deepening their practice off the mat.  She draws influence from her studies with Seane Corn and Kathryn Budig.

Kyla Maher (Geet Anand Kaur)   Long Time Sun

Kyla graduated from Pepperdine University with a B.S. in Sports Medicine. She is a KRI Certified Instructor of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan® and is certified in SuperHealth, a yogic therapeutic technology for addictive behavior. She has had the privilege of studying under many master teachers including Hari Kaur Khalsa, Mukta Kaur Khalsa, and Mahan Rishi Singh Khalsa. She has been a contributing writer for the Spirit Voyage Blog and the Kundalini Yoga Boston Blog. She spent the summers of 2012-2013 teaching at the Ponderosa Tazland Festival in Germany and has taught at many events and held workshops all over New England. She is the Creator and Owner of Long Time Sun Apparel, an online Kundalini Yoga clothing company, and is beyond thrilled about her newest venture, Long Time Sun Apparel Newport.

It is my belief that the only limitations in life are those we create by our thoughts. I seek to create a place where these thoughts can be observed, challenged and transformed. I have been practicing yoga since my children were young and I struggled to balance parenthood, marriage and graduate school. Discovering Baptiste yoga was like finding the missing element in my life. For me, practicing and teaching Baptiste yoga has allowed me to see the places in my life that I was hiding, not living authentically. Every training I attend with Baron leads to yet another revelation, even after so many years! I love being both a work in progress and yet perfect as I am right now. I am filled with gratitude to align myself with the truly remarkable Baptiste community. In addition to being a Certified Baptiste Power Yoga instructor, Liz is a Reiki Master and holds a Master’s degree in psychology. Liz has been a student of A Course in Miracles for many years and draws on it’s inspiration in her teaching. Liz’s classes draw on her passion for Baptiste Yoga and it’s principles combined with her many years of experience working in human services. Liz facilitates an environment for students to safely and powerfully explore the possibilities in life, both on and off the mat.

Kim Chandler  Innerlight Yoga

Kim, ERYT is the founder and director of Innerlight. A former resident of Kripalu Center, Kim completed her first teacher training in 1990 and has since dedicated her professional life to teaching yoga and training yoga teachers. Kim directed Kripalu Yoga Teacher Training, was a founding member of the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association and served as the Associate Director of the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association 1993-1995.Kripalu teaching methodology continues to have a presence in Kim's teaching. She has also been influenced by a wide variety of other teachers and traditions.  Most recently her study with the founder of iRest ® Yoga Nidra, Richard Miller, PhD. has infused her teaching with an understanding of the importance of deep, restorative experience and mindfulness practices.  She is a certified Level II iRest® Yoga Nidra teacher.

Kim is also a certified Proprioceptive Writing® (PW) teacher. PW is a mindfulness practice that fosters integration of emotional and intellectual experience, builds self trust and frees creativity and intuition. Kim's experiences with the highly synergistic and complimentary practices of PW and yoga have culminated in her program, Mind in Motion.

Kim's teaching style combines structural alignment, contemplative aspects of yoga and mindfulness.  Her approach emphasizes breath, attention and awareness.  In the context of a group class, Kim has an eye toward supporting and guiding students to embody their individual, unique  expression of each pose. Her classes tend to move slowly and methodically and typically include a guided relaxation experience.

Lori has completed her 500hr Teacher Training "Life of a Yogi" with the world renowned Sri Dharma Mittra and is currently undergoing his 800hr Ultimate Teacher Training. Sri Dharma is known as the "Teacher's Teacher" and the "Rock of Yoga" and Lori considers him her preceptor on her yogic path. Lori has completed 200hr Teacher Trainings with Live, Love, Teach and Grace Yoga. Lori will take you on a journey to discover "All is Within" through the challenges of a physical practice, connection to breath and awareness on thought patterns to work towards a place of calmness and stillness. Patti Confort E-RYT came to yoga in 2001. The practice cultivated an awakening that she was destined to share with others. She earned her 200 hour certification with the Yoga Alliance in 2008.  

Patti’s yoga classes are designed to provide students with a full physical and energetic experience. With an emphasis on the union of breath with movement, her presentation includes specific instruction and a wide range of modifications to allow each practitioner a uniquely personal experience.  

Patti strives to create an atmosphere in her classes that allows the yoga to help her students on their own journeys towards lives of compassion and love, on and off the mat.  

While relatively new to teaching yoga, Patti was a math teacher for more than 30 years.

Mary Leonti  Body Zen Massage & Yoga

My inspiration in life has always focused on the creative and healing arts. I am drawn to the etherial, and through my practice I strive to manifest one’s inner, and have learned to incorporate the tangible with the intangible.
The healing process is the transposition of information learned through touch and bodywork. The healer’s physical vessel brings the learned information into reality and helps to connect one to their own energy. This connection within oneself evokes the ultimate healing, which is love. Through touch and intuition I have been driven to counterbalance suffering and to inspire love healing in others. This is the method I use in my massage and yoga practice.

She strives to aid students with finding strength and wellness while uniting breath and movement. Through intention practitioners will find that we do not use the body to get into a pose, we use the pose to get into the body. Every breath, movement, thought sends a wish out into the universe. Jessica is also a Raw Vegan Chef who graduated from Living Light Culinary.

Emily Moyer Director and Owner of Newport Community Yoga

Emily first began a regular yoga practice in her early twenties while attending college in Western North Carolina. The practice of mindful awareness cultivated through Yoga has since served as a guiding and grounding force throughout this journey of the heart that is life. She has been sharing the gift of Yoga for over five years with people from many walks of life, teaching in schools, nursing homes, teen lock down facilities, and yoga studios.  Emily approaches yoga as a healing practice that works on every level of the human being to achieve optimal health and integration of mind body and spirit. The mindfulness practice of yoga strengthens one’s ability to listen within and make choices that serve to create a life that supports the highest self.  She grew up in Central Massachusetts, spent eight years living in NC and CO, and recently moved to Newport to attend the Holistic Counseling Master’s program at Salve Regina University.

Meagan Zarba Everyday Ohm

Meagan became a Hatha yoga instructor (RYT 200) in 2013 in the beautiful valley of Western Massachusetts under teachers Ruthanne Lundeberg and Jayan Schumer.  Her classes encourage you to come deeply into the union of mind and body using the breath for guidance, balancing strength and softness, discipline and surrender.  Through your Hatha yoga practice you continuously release that which you no longer need and cultivate greater self compassion and peace, for the purpose of carrying that peace forward into your community.  For the water lovers, paddle boarders and those with adventure in their hearts, she also holds an OnboardSUP Yoga training and PSUPA water safety certification.

Meredith Nordhem Ewenson        Thames Street Yoga

Meredith is a RYT200 and graduate of Gina Caputo & Kathryn Budig's Aim True: Integrated Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training in 2014.

She discovered yoga while living in Charleston, SC in 2008 and it quickly became her sanctuary. The time spent on her mat has given her the tools understand herself and the world around her better, and for that she is grateful. Her style is playful, but introspective; challenging, but purposeful.

Her mission is for you to leave feeling more whole and balanced than when you walked in (and have a big smile on your face).

She currently practices and teaches in Newport, RI.

Magi Lile      Wild Rose Yoga

Magi, a traveling yogini most frequently residing in Chiang Mai, Thailand, came to yoga as a stuff and injured athlete looking to gain flexibility. She much enjoys a strong physical practice but looks at yoga as a way to find balance of the body, mind, and spirit. While it was the physical side of yoga that first caught her attention it is the more subtle levels of the energetic practice that she is most interested in. She looks at the mat as a playground for how we react to things in everyday life and believes that through asana and movement of the physical body we come to better know ourselves. Magi will guide you through a fun flowing class that challenges strength and flexibility, balances effort with ease, and raises your energy to arrive at peace and stillness.

Brenda Folger      Shunya Studio

Brenda has been practicing yoga since 1998. She became a certified yoga instructor in 2003 and is a registered E-RYT 200 with Yoga Alliance. She has also completed Yoga Tools in 2007 enabling her to bring the benefits of yoga to her middle school classroom. She continues to actively cultivate and expand her personal practice and knowledge of yoga with many local and national teachers. Brenda's classes inspire students to discover their inner dance through a deep meditative flow, and manifest a calmer, happier more peaceful self. She offers students creative opportunities to adapt, and playfully explore many layers of yoga poses to deepen the experience of their practice.

Sara McBride  Long Time Sun / Shunya Studio / Thames Street Yoga

Sara (Satya Prem Kaur) believes that nothing short of divine assistance led her to her first Kundalini Yoga class in early 2014.This was the first type of yoga she had ever tried and it resonated with her so much that just five short months later she signed up for Kundalini Yoga teacher training led by Guru Singh and Hari Kaur Khalsa.
Sara brings to her practice a profound sense of compassion and knowledge of the body which she cultivated over years working as a nurse at Catholic Memorial Home. Her journey has most recently brought her to a love of Vinyasa. Again, with divine intervention she will be a graduate of a 200hour Vinyasa teacher training program this August 2016. Her lead teachers being Patti Doyle and Lori Pagliaroni.
Sara continues to feel so blessed to be a part of this growing community and to be connected to such great teachers that continue to inspire her on a daily basis.

Emily Lawrence

Emily, a newbie to the art of mindfulness and yogic practice, began her journey in late 2014. Initially drawn to the physical practice, Emily quickly learned that yoga was much more than the asanas practiced in class. Since receiving her BA in psychology and subsequent MA in Applied Behavior Analysis from Salve Regina University, Emily hopes to integrate breathe, movement, and the understanding of human nature to cultivate a higher sense of bliss and understanding. Emily will receive her RYT-200 in late August under the awe inspiring guidance of Patti Doyle and Lori Pagliaroni through Thames Street Yoga.

David Allard     Shunya Studio
David Allard is a power yoga teacher who has been extremely inspired by the teachings of Baron Baptiste. David has attended various trainings with Baron and feels very inspired by his transformational type of yoga. David always tries to create a dynamic class that focuses on both strength and stability.

Meika’s career in the healing arts began with a personal journey to find holistic ways to ease and benefit her life. Having had a profound breakthrough through energy healing, she sought out to continue her understanding of energy work. In 2014 she became certified in Polarity Therapy through Energy as Medicine Foundation in Lake Tahoe, CA. Having natural intuition and connection towards others, Meika finds energy work to be a cyclical experience for both client and practitioner. In the fall of 2016, she became a certified yoga instructor through Yoga Works, in Bali, Indonesia. Her hunger for knowledge on self care and guidance continues as she obtains more skills in Kundalini, Ayurveda, and Thai yoga massage.
